| Our nephew joined us for the last week of our trip and booked a hotel for the remaining 4 days after we left.
We drove him to his hotel on our way to the airport. Luckily my husband went with him to check in. I was waiting outside in the car and they were gone for some time. When I went in I found that no one under the age of 21 can stay in a hotel but as he was with his father? they were prepared to make an exception.
Their normal policy is to direct them to a Motel!
The receptionist said that we should have contacted the hotel to see what the restrictions were before booking. Next question was did he have a car, by this time I was at boiling point. How ridiculous that you can be old enough to drive a car but not to stay in an hotel also why isn't there any mention of the age policy on the website.
We weren't happy about him staying by himself but he is 20 (21 in April) At least we thought he'd be ok staying in a reputable hotel near to Disney Marketplace. My husband didn't want to leave him but it was too late to change his flight as our bags had been checked in that morning.
I know most of you won't be going through the same situation but I thought it might be worthwhile posting this for future reference.

Can't stay in a hotel at all? Or can't stay in a hotel on their own? The fomer just doesn't make sense (although in USA nothing would surprise me!) | Keith | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

| I wasn't there at the beginning but my understanding was his age was the problem, the receptionist told me that they always turned away under 21's.
My suggestion that perhaps it would be better to either mention it on the website or ask for a date of birth before taking a reservation was brushed away with "it's your responsibility to check with the hotel first"
I think the thing that annoyed me most that as we were driving away I could see the rooms and only the entry was a hotel the rooms were a motel.

| | When Robert flew out to North Carolina earlier this year he arrived 2 days before his university housing was available so had to stay in a hotel. I rung the Best Western to make the booking and they were well aware that he was a single 20 year old male staying on his own. I had no problem making the reservation and he was made very welcome during his stay. | http://www.villasflorida.com/Villas/612.aspx | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

| There are many hotels and resorts here that are 'adult only'. That doesn't mean they have deviant goings on! It's just where adults can get away from kids running around the pool, or as the previous post correctly stated, casinos and alcohol. Remember, this is the bible bashing USA! | Nephew arrived home this morning, my husband has been very worried and has been ringing his hotel room each evening without success. He's working evenings this week so he thought if he rang him after 3am he'd find him in his room.
The hotel was a two minute walk away from Disney Marketplace so he was going there most evenings. Sounds like he had a great time, he wasn't worried at all. We have been nervous wrecks ever since we left him on Saturday afternoon.
We both agreed that for the first time we're glad we don't have kids, I don't know how you parents do it. | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

| "With difficulty Zena ,with difficulty !
Given how kind you were to my daughter and her boyfriend when they visited Dublin I'm sure you don't have any trouble with your own.
The only trouble is the more independant you encourage your children to become the more you pay for it in sleepless nights as they get older, not necessarily from worrying about their own capabilities but more from their vulnerabilities with strange situations/people/places etc.
Like most mums I wouldnt have it any other way though, whilst it's nice to be needed, it;s also nice to know they can fend for themselves if necessary.
