Laura you need to expand a bit before people can give you an opinion as looking at your post above it is not feasible without knowing the facts.

Laura, I don't want to pour water on your fire but it's so difficult to do under your circumstaces. Just as a starting point you would generally need to find 20% of the cash for the property. The process of buying is easy enough but the whole moving to the US is most certainly not.

Laura, if you want to work in USA why dont you post your CV on Monster.com and see if any employers will pick it up. I know of someone recently that was offered a job in Minniapolis and they sponsored him for his visa.

Best of luck!

It may be enough, although with the market as it is in US you may find as a 'first time buyer' you are asked for 25%. You will need to shop around for a mortgage.

Dont bother looking, even if you qualify all the HIBs are gone till Oct 2008, unless you have a very specialist skill no employer will wait that long. The only way you can do 6 months work experience is on a J1 visa. This is the visa au pairs, camp counsellors, and people who want to do an internship for Disney among others use. If you are moving out for six months only, I dont see the relevance of a mortgage, just rent. Anyone pretty much can get a mortgage relying on UK income for a holiday home. For anyone moving out to work however, it is mite more difficult relying on building up credit ratings etc.
