We did this 4 years in a row, the next year we were going to take part, bu it never happened. Great day out. You just have to follow the Chili with an IBC rootbeer float, yummy.

KISSIMMEE’S “SUNSHINE REGIONAL CHILI COOK-OFF” WAS A HOT EVENT!

Kissimmee, Fla. (January 16, 2007)– The 11th Annual Kissimmee Sunshine Regional Chili Cook-off was definitely a spicy treat for all who attended and participated in this event held at Lakefront Park. Nearly 40 competitors from around the U.S. showcased their best chili recipes. Competitors hailed from New Jersey, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and from Florida cities, such as Naples, Lakeland, Mims, Davenport, Orlando, and Kissimmee and competed for nearly $4,000 in cash and prizes.

The Kissimmee Cook-off had more than 30 judges sampling the chili! Terry Smith of Clearwater, Fla., won the 1st place prize of $1,000, a trophy and two round-trip tickets to the World Finals, this fall. The 2nd place winner was Pete Edwards of Kissimmee, Fla., winning $350 and a trophy. Third place went to Ray Fredericks of Largo, Fla., who was awarded $150 and a trophy.

Vince Edlebeck, of Davenport, Fla., finished in 4th place winning $100 and a trophy. Doug Smith of Clearwater, Fla., walked away with $75 and a trophy for 5th place. Rounding out the top six was Don Sprouse of Naples, Fla. He claimed the $50 prize and a trophy.

This marked the 6th year for the Salsa and Chile Verde competitions, which continue to grow each year. Judie Omerza of Wilkes Barre, P.A., won the 1st place prize of $100, a trophy for Best Salsa and an invitation to the World Finals. Pam Nelson of Winter Park, Fla., won 2nd place and he was awarded with a trophy. Richie Omerza of Wilkes Barre, P.A., took home a trophy for 3rd place.

In the Chili Verde competition, Ron Dahlgren of The Villages won 1st place and took home $250, a trophy and an invitation to the World Finals; 2nd Place went to Richie Omerza, of Wilkes Barre, P.A., who took home $100 and a trophy; Randy Gilchrist of Mims, Fla., went home with a trophy and $50 for his 3rd place finish.

The Best Booth Competition awards went to—1st place: Dead Serious Chili Team; 2nd place: K.A.T.N Chili; and 3rd place: God’s Gourmet Chili.

The next “Kissimmee Sunshine Regional Chili Cook-off” will take place on January 12, 2008.
