I had a new Tom-Tom Sat Nav for system together with the card for USA. We are off to Florida at the end of next week and just wondered is it best to put this in hand luggage or in the cases?

I put mine in my hand luggage, wrapped in bubble wrap and it did just fine. I wouldn't trust something with an LCD screen and worth quite a bit of money in cargo hold luggage as I've had cases run over by those luggage trucks before now.

You can be asked when you pass through security to turn it on to prove it's what it looks like so remember to rev it up first!

We bought the offical Tom Tom carry case for ours. It come padded for both the holder and the unit. We put our into hand luggage and had no problems with it.

Thanks a lot for the info.

I got the carry case with mine so it will be safely stowed in the hand luggage!

It's not the memory you need to worry about, it's the LCD screen. Baggage handlers aren't usually well known for handling baggage very gently! Plus all electronic items should be in your hand luggage in case you need to prove that they are what they say they are.
