For the last few days I really haven't done very much at all. The weather has been fantastic apart from some evening showers yesterday - but it was dark by then.

I spent Tuesday at Wet and Wild (yes by myself), I gathered up my towel, magazines, ipod, drinks and snacks and got myself settled by the beach area. It was probably the clearest and hottest day so far and the park was quite a bit busier than I'd seen it. Chatted to a few people but mostly read and relaxed.

Today I took a final trip to the Florida Mall, my nephew had emailed and asked for some more K Swiss Trainers, so off I went bright and early this morning. Had a look around Macys but I think I'm all shopped out (can't believe I said that and neither will my husband msnoo]).

Returned to the villa and had a swim and chatted to more neighbours that had arrived. One neighbour is a full time resident but on the other side the house seems constantly occupied with renters coming and going through Virgin Holidays - I wonder how much the owners actually get?

I've cleaned the villa, done my packing, checked in on-line and believe it or not I'm actually looking forward to going home, I know not many people say that. I'm sure, however, that once I've been home a few days I'll wish I was back again. There'll be nothing for it than to book another flight to get over the blues

Has it felt strange doing things on your own after the family went home?

I have an ambition to travel on my own one day and having read your trip reports it makes me even more determined, problem is people are always volunteering to "keep me company", I suppose they all feel it's their duty, nothing to do with a holiday in Florida

Thanks all for your support. Ravtino yes there are times that are a bit strange when on your own but it is very liberating the one thing that's really changed is that he always used to do most of the driving but now it's the other way round.

I actually came here for the first time on my own in March this year and bought the property we now own, so after that everything was easy. I worked as a Travel Agent for many years and travelled with strangers from other parts of the country to check out hotels and areas so I think that helped. Liz definitely do it - probably best to start off on your own and then have the family and friends join you later as looking forward to them arriving is one of the best parts. Saying goodbye isn't easy but once you've done it it gets easier the next time.

I'd just like to point out that my husband is very supportive and would love to always be with me but someone has to earn the cash to pay for all these things - fortunately it's not me!

To everyone who's looking forward to coming and those already here - ENJOY - I know you will.

Jill

My husband works away a lot and as you say someone has to earn the money!!!!! I am always saying to him "just for some time on my own!!" hes always telling me that its awful when he's away and it makes you realize what you have, so maybe I should do it, I used to work away from home before I had our son and I have to say I enjoyed it - but I did get to stay in nice hotels ohhhhhhhhhh but that was a long time ago, maybe one day..................

Jill

I'm setting off tomorrow for my first trip on my own and I just wanted to let you know that your trip reports have made me feel a lot less apprehensive about it. It has been good to hear about somebody else getting used to the driving and coping on their own navigating etc.

This report has made me think that I might try a Water Park or something on my own too whilst I'm there - time permitting as I've got a LOT of shopping to do!

Thanks again

Tracy

Tracey that's a pleasure. Just take a deep breath before driving and if you're a bit apprehensive just drive a bit slower and don't be intimidated by other drivers - they can pass you afterall. I find if you talk to people they're generally friendly but it does take confidence to make the first move.

My husband travels too and complains about hotel food and longs for a plain sausage and mash when he returns home - I think time alone is good for both partners. I know in our case absence does make the heart grow fonderbut appreciate it doesn't work for everyone. Maybe that's why we've been together for 25 years and look forward to the next.

Jill
