| Days 1 & 2 – Blizzard Beach & Islands of Adventure
After nearly killing Steve (see part 2) I went out onto the balcony to see the day. It was a beautiful morning. Richard and Adam were already in the pool but we were going to Blizzard Beach today so I decided that would be enough water for me. Having not had time to get to Walmart the previous night, we all had to make do with black coffee and tea and sat on the pool deck enjoying the morning sunshine and made the decision to do an ‘all you can eat breakfast’.
By 9.30am everyone was up and dressed and ready to go.. We decided to eat at the Ponderosa for breakfast, it was OK, nothing good, nothing bad.
Nicely stuffed, we programmed Sarah for Blizzard beach and off we went. When we got to the car-park it looked pretty empty.
Blizzard Beach refillable mugs in hand (from our previous visit) we bought new stickers for that day and walked to our favourite spot near Tikes Peak. We always liked to get our beds near here on our last visit because it was fairly quiet, plus you had the picnic tables and benches with a cover over for eating etc and it was close enough to all the slides, toilets, refill stations etc.
We camped our stuff on the beds and all went in different directions!! Don’t know where all the children went but we didn’t see them for about 3 hours! Steve and I sauntered round on our rings on the lazy river (he loves to soak me in the cave area where the water is freezing – must be a man thing because I saw loads of poor ladies suffering the same fate!!). The weather was hot but fairly cloudy. After doing most of the slides (apart from Summit Plummit) we headed back to the sunbeds. Bev and Richard were there but no children. By this time it was looking decidedly like rain. After about 10 minutes, we felt a few drops so decided we would call it a day. Just as we were thinking of sending out a search party all the children turned up so we packed up and headed off to Walmart for the basic provisions. It was a good move because the heavens opened just as we got to the cars.
Walmart – do I need to say anymore? We were only buying the basics – i.e bread, water, milk, cereals but we were in there for over 2 hours! I love it! We went back to the villa, showered and then went in search of food. We had decided to eat separate tonight so we went our different ways. We went to Shoneys and I must say none of us liked the food very much, the waitress was very nice though.
The next morning was fairly cloudy (better for trampling the parks I think!) so we all had toast and cereals and set off. We had only paid a deposit on the villa so had to make a stop off at the offices of the management company to pay our dues. This was on the 192 so we programmed Sarah and off we went. It didn’t take long in the offices so we were soon on our way to Islands of Adventure.
On planning this trip, Richard (who isn’t a great lover of roller coasters and the like) had said that he was going to do ‘The Hulk’ ride so we were all gee-ing him up on the escalators towards Universal. There was a small queue at the turnstiles and then we were in. As we walked towards Hulk, Richard was looking decidedly sheepish. Me, Steve, Leanne, Adam & Chris all went to join the queue. It only took about 10 mins and we were on the ride. Whooosh…….that first bit where it sends you outside is the worst I think. Hahaha. Bev, Richard, Daron & Stacy were waiting for us and as we got back Richard says “Right I’m going on” so off they went. I decided to give it a miss this time (once is enough!). Well, when they came off Richard looked as green as the Hulk and he spent most of the rest of the morning being sick. Poor thing.
Bev’s favourite ride is Spiderman so that was next on the agenda. I love this too but there was one bit where I had to close my eyes because I started to feel extremely queasy (must have been sympathy for Richard). We gave Doom a miss saying we’d do it on our next visit.
Next it was onto Toon Lagoon for a soaking and boy did we get wet!! The Ripsaw Falls and Bluto’s barges are absolutely great. We were absolutely dripping wet when we came off and then it started to rain……well we couldn’t get any wetter so we just carried on! It only rained for about 15 minutes. We met Popeye, Olive Oil, Betty Boop and Woody woodpecker here and had all the obligatory photo’s, like you do.
Then we headed towards Jurassic Park and queued for the River Adventure, just as we were close to the front they closed it because of ‘inclement weather conditions’. The sun was cracking the flags at the time!! Anyway we decided to wait and after about 20minutes they re-opened the ride and we went to meet T-Rex!!
We then stopped for a snack while Adam and Leanne went on Duelling Dragons (twice!) Out of all the rides at Islands of Adventure this is my least favourite, I think its too fast and throws you around too much, but hey, that’s just me.
By now it was getting on for 6.00pm so we made our way back to City Walk. We just sat and enjoyed the atmosphere for a while and looked in some of the shops then headed off back to the villa.
We all had a swim in the pool when we got back and then we were too lazy to go out for a meal so ordered Pizza again (I know, I know…….not good for the figure!!). An early night followed because tomorrow we were up early for our journey to Busch Gardens.

| | Good report, did Richard enjoy Hulk, albeit he turned green. I have it into my head to definately do Hulk this year, just a bit cowardly about these sorts of rides though. | Jan | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |
