| Day 4 - Sept 5th - Labor Day
Today we are off to the airport to pick up our daughter, who has managed to get a week off work to come and see the house. Mum & Margaret have decided they need a chill out day by the pool, so we are going to the airport via Home Depot.... Mum didn't want to visit this store for some reason LOL.
We left them sunning themselves on the pool deck and headed off to OBT via the 417. With a shopping list of delights such as light bulbs, cleaning products, palm tree food etc, we found a trolley and worked our way round the shop. Funny how you go in there with a specific list and emerge with a whole set of extra things you didn't even know you needed.
Back in the car and time for a quick stop at Target as it was just across the road (nearly). Another few things for the house and we were on our way to the airport.
Sarah emerged from the arrivals hall looking frazzled and tearful. Although she is 24, this was her first trip alone; in fact this was her first holiday since leaving home. She has always been too busy at work to get round to taking a holiday, so we had decided to do whatever she wanted to do for the week she was with us. I made sure I had tickets for everything she might want to do, and we would just buy anything else at the gate.
Sarah also arrived with just hand luggage, but had already asked if we had a suitcase she could use for her return journey. After hugs and kisses, back into the car and the house. Sarah's reaction was as good as Mum's had been so we were really chuffed.
Once we got settled and started chatting we found out why she had been so emotional at the airport. She had been working a 7 day week (10am - 11pm, she's a chef in a small restaurant), had been out after work last night, come home at 4am, fallen asleep and her alarm hadn't gone off in time for her to catch the train to the airport.
When she was woken by her boyfriend ringing her, expecting her to be at the airport by this time, she was in a blind panic and after pleading with a taxi firm, managed to get to the airport 15 mins before take off!!!! No wonder she was emotional...
She was insistent we went out for dinner, but once in the car, she opted to just stop at the Golden Corral and eat something quick then go to bed.
Day 5 - Sept 6th
The morning started slowly, and we left Sarah to sleep till she was ready to wake. All my children seem to have inherited their father’s love of sleeping, so it could be that she wouldn't emerge from her bed today.
But no, she woke up around 10 raring to go. As it was a normal working day after the holiday yesterday we rang round a few people we needed to see and made arrangements for later in the week.
As today we had yet another airport run, to meet another Aunt who was visiting from New York, Sarah was happy to spend the day shopping. As Mum & Margaret had already been to Millennia we headed for the Florida Mall. Again we split up (I already know how long Mum can spend in each shop, so left her to it) and agreed to meet 3 hours later.
We started following Sarah round clothes shops, but I think she sensed we were bored with that so asked to meet us later with Mum. So we wandered off to find some things for the house. Since buying the house I have lost interest in clothes or anything for me, but we managed to get some things for Michael (our son, left at home).
One by one we all appeared at Barnies coffee house, and decided enough shopping for today, so back to the house to get ready for airport run number 3.
My Aunt had phoned and left a message saying we didn't need to pick her up now; she had hired a car and was sure she would find the house herself. As a New Yorker we thought "Great, she'll have no problems driving in Florida" Ha ha, if only we knew what was to come......
Aunt Betty's flight landed at 3pm, and when she hadn't appeared by 7.30 we were starting to panic. Al and I got in the car and started heading up to the airport. We were just emerging from Windwood Bay when she turned in. Relieved, we said hello and nipped to Publix for more supplies.
Once everyone had said their hello's we all got in the Durango and went to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner. This has become a firm favourite of ours now, and the rest of the party was suitably impressed too. After a good meal and some entertainment by the waiters it was back to the house.
More than anything these days I just love sitting on the pool deck in the evening with a glass of something and chatting away, with not a care in the world......
Day 6 - Sept 7th
Sarah decided her first Park should be Epcot, and we had no argument with that as it is our fav Park. We went in both cars so that the old's could come home earlier if they got tired. She was grinning from ear to ear as we approached and she caught sight of Spaceship Earth. The temp was already nearing 90 degree's and it was still only 11am.
We headed straight for Soarin as we still hadn't managed to get on it last time we were here. This is fantastic, don't miss it.... From there we headed off to Test Track and then I left Sarah and Al to go on Mission Space. I can't do the simulators anymore, they make me really ill these days, but they both loved it and went back for a second attempt at landing on Mars.
After Sarah had finished all she wanted to see in Future World we took a slow stroll over to World Showcase and went round each country thoroughly. Time was ticking on so we radioed the oldies and asked how they were getting on. They were getting weary so had decided to head back to the house and relax in the Jacuzzi. We stayed for Illuminations and it never fails to give me goose bumps and brings a smile to my face.
When we got back to the house we found the Golden Girls all sat in the Jacuzzi, slightly the worse for wear (OK, that's a euphemism for drunk as Lords). We laughed our socks off at the state of them and made sure we had photographic evidence in case they tried to deny it all in the morning.....
