More and more Brits (and I've even seen it mentioned on TV ads!) are using the American for twice which is two times. Its roots are in once, twice, thrice (or that's one time, two times and three times perhaps?).

Has twice turned into a dying UK word? Is it the influence of our American friends? Why would you want to use two words when you can use one?

I as an American always use the word twice.

Never thought twice about it.

A lot of the American boy bands and "rappers" use 2 times in their lyrics, perhaps this is where the youngsters are picking it up.
Lionel Ritchie had the right idea though, "Once, TWICE, three times a lady!"

I tend to use twice more than two times.

What about treble or triple?

The first time I rang the US to book something I had to leave a contact number.
Now part of my phone number is 555 so I said blah blah treble 5 blah which confused the person on the other end of the line tremendously.

I now always quote number for number, no trebles, triples or doubles.

Brizzle.

Well that makes me old fashioned then as two times is cumbersome and verbose so I will stick with twice.
