| Here`s a tester for you experts,
Does anybody know what the requirements are for you to have a gun permit for a handgun in Orlando? What i mean is do you have to be a citizen, green card holder, E2 visa holder or what to apply for one???

Out of curiosity could I ask why you would want a hand-gun? can understand someone wanting to do a bit of hunting with a hunting rifle but what would you use a handgun for? Apologies if I'm being too nosy!

| Shooting handguns is a sport.
Seeing as how we no longer have that privilege just wondered what the position was in Florida. Hoping to get an E2 visa from a business later in the year.
Oh and as TREV said "shoot anybody who steals my deer" right!!
Dont worry Anne Marie, wouldn`t waste bullets on a mouse, a simply trap would do that job just fine | Neil & Kay | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

| This is interesting thread.
Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the 'mouse' area that you can go to in order to shoot guns!?
That sounds a little harsh.
I mean you know, in a controlled manner. I've used a shotgun a couple of times - clay pigeon which I really enjoyed. Perhaps there's something a tad more interesting available in a US state?
Say a rocket grenade launcher or a self propelled gun, or something similar?
Seriously though - does anyone know if such an opportunity exists?
Thanks

| I never really fancied paintballing. I just wanna shoot things, or blow them up. Blow up a car from a mile away - that sounds like fun!
Maybe that's my million dollar idea. 'War on Terror' theme park in Orlando. Nuke pretend enemies. Blow up your friends and family. "Beat up Blair" ride.. "Bush Bashing" coaster..
Could be very popular. Remember that you heard it here first!
Thanks Blott

Hubbie always goes to a shooting range when we're in the US and visited a couple while we were in Florida. One was Rieg's Gun Shop on South Orange Blossom Trail and the other was opposite the Correctional Facility!
Had a very interesting and frank discussion with the Assistant there about Gun Law in the US and our UK restrictions. We agreed to disagree but it was very enlightening. Like the fact that a private seller can sell a hand-gun to anyone he chooses without making any background checks. In fact, if he even asks the question "are you a criminal?" he is liable to be sued even when the buyer will obviously lie. Just has to make sure he has a full receipt for cash and weapon exchange, even in it's not worth the paper it's written on. So much for licensing....Madness!
Anyway, getting off the soapbox, a variety of handguns for hire were on offer for use on their indoor gun ranges and even some semi-automatic (? I'm not into guns but ones like Soldiers carry, Bushranger?, Bushwhacker?, something like that) Hubbie had great fun as usual and the staff at both facilities were helpful and informative.
Sorry didn't see any rocket launchers or I'm sure Hubbie would have been firing one! | Angua | Edited by - Angua on 16 Jun 2004 10:02:48 | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

| Angua, Thats exactly what i do each time i go over, straight to a range and blast away for an hour or two, its great for relieving tension. Over years i`ve shot many diferent guns from james bonds walther to dirty harry`s 44 magnum. This last time in March went to this place on oakridge and got to use a fully automatic 9mm Uzi, if there are any gun nuts out there, you got to try it. (Just off OBT less than a mile down oakridge)
Chris J Dont exactly know what you mean, i`m a shotgun owner but i was under the impression handguns are illegal since hungerford, i know you can still shoot rifles but not handguns!!!!!
I would recommend to any readers that you try it on a range in the US its fun to just blast away with something you cant get to do in the UK, you never know you may like it.

| Neil/Angua,
That's brilliant information - sounds like great fun.
Was it expensive? Some idea of price would be helpful, and were young kids allowed in the building/area (as spectators - not targets! )
Did the price change to use different guns?
Was training provided?
Did you have to prove yourself before going up in calibre etc..
Also - sorry to be thick - where is OBT?
Many thanks for the info - I think this will go on 'Colins' list!
Colin PS Chris - don't fancy TA - I'm too old plus all that marching and training. Just wanna shoot stuff .... | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |

The place where i go is on Oakridge, if you drive from Belz factory outlet along oakridge you eventually cross Orange Blossom Trail (OBT), after crossing OBT the shop is on the right after about half/mile. Its only a small gun shop, but it has a range on the side for about 4 shooters. Yes they will give training if you require, it costs about $10 for the range and you can just keep going back out with diferent guns (one at a time). The extra cost comes from buying ammo for each gun. I would guess for an hour or two of shooting diferent guns expect to pay $50-60. The Uzi was extra though add extra $20 for this. With regard to kids been allowed not sure, i think they let a max of 2 people to one lane, all you need is ID, i used UK driving card. The shop is cool as they have all kinds of guns on the wall, AK47, sniper rifles, the works, i got them to let me get pics with them all.
Regards,
