| Hi everyone. Have recently returned from Orlando where we rented a car and paid quite a lot for Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) insurance. I have since heard that CDW cover is free with some types of Credit Card. Has anyone else heard this and, if so, which credit cards does it apply to?
Thanks a million. | | Report this post to a moderator |

| Susan, you can always decline to take any of their insurances, you must give them a credit card details though just in case.I used to di this when traveling on company business, and they didn't even blink, albeit this was Houston.
Wether they accept your insurance is another matter, We had American express premier travel insurance which covers hire cars for cdw,pai etc. I had a wonderful hagglin argument with an alamo rep who was try to convince me that it was not worth the paper it was written on. Eventually i told him i was declining their insurance, i would stick with what i had. So he wrote in big letters across the rental form, NO INSURANCE. Now it was my turn to kick up a fuss, would they do that with an american? No, so after getting the supervisor involved, the rental form was re-issued, with just my initials to decline their insurances.
Having said all that, it is now difficult but not impossible to rent a car in the US without all the added cdw etc, at a cheap enough price to make the A/Express insurance (or it's equivilance) to pay it's way. | Wilf & Sarah

| The problem with not accepting the car rental company's CDW is, I guess, they think it's all too complicated if you're unfortunate enough to have an accident.
Presumably, it would mean the rental company liaising with an insurance company in the UK, which sounds fraught with danger to me as I'm thinking long delays, expensive international paperwork, a vehicle out of action for ages whilst all this goes on with, presumably, rental charges piling up, etc, etc! | Blott www.orlandovillas.com/villas/150.aspx

Blott when we looked into this a couple of years ago and asked Dollar, they said they would not get involved at all with sorting out any claims, basically they would charge you for the car and it would be up to you to get the money back from the insurance.. We decided it wasn't worth for the number of weeks we go on holiday. | Babblin Boo http://www.orlandovillas.com/villas/92.aspx

| We get this insurance with our annual travel insurance, not sure how good it is. Saying that we still take out the full insurance from the hire company. Cant have enough insurance in my opinion | Chrisj | | Report this post to a moderator | goto top of page |
