    Miami Rental Locations

We are flying into Orlando in August and need to hire a car in Orlando for 4 days, we will then drive to Miami and want to return the car as we are going on a cruise and then rehire 6 days later from Miami and return back to Orlando.

I see there is a rental location at Intercontinental Miami which looks like it is at the port but I don't think it is open on a Sunday. Could someone confirm this please. If so which is the next closest rental location to the port ?

Also is it possible to rent a car for the two periods on one booking or do we need to do it in two bookings ?

    Many Thanks,

    Clair

It is not in the port but is close by. The office is closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. We hired a car some years ago from a hotel on Collins but found the choice was very limited. Personally I would drop off at the airport and get the shuttle over to the port and then reverse the process or if it is only a short cruise we have left a car parked at the docks and had the convenience of once off the ship going straight to the car park and driving straight off to where we wanted to get.

We did this a few weeks ago. If you use Alamo, and leave the car at Miami airport, they provide a free bus transfer to the port and will drop you at your ship. This also works in revers when you come back. The bus runs every 20min or so and takes about 15min from airport to port so allow time for the transfer. I think Dollar do the same but you would need to check.

We found hotel parking v expensive in Miami it's cheaper to park in public parking garages $1 an hour normally although one lot at south beach was $20 for 2 hours but that was just ripping off tourists panicking as driving can be challenging - we valet parked couple days then returned our car to Alamo on Collins at mid beach near the Marriot hotel then got taxi to Alamo sunny isles (north beach) to resume car rental few days later For remainder of trip which was much cheaper than parking & as we'd been relaxing & out on local tour bus trips made sense. Alamo at Collins mid beach are not on US car hire so we had to use Sunny Isles agent near Trump Towers on Collins Ave but found their staff really friendly & got upgrade to car we wanted for long drive back on turnpike. The nearby Aventura mall is as good as if better than Millenia just 5 mins over causeway. Shopping in Miami was not great - Lincoln Rd mall was not worth visit tbh. Esp as outdoors - far too hot!
